Actually, I’ve never thought that, but it’s still true. School, especially college, (ESPECIALLY accelerated college curriculums geared towards “professional” adults), “ain’t fer sissies or lilly-livered pansies.”

After a 12-year absense of formal education in my life, I finally went back to school recently. I’m attending Indiana Wesleyan University, enrolled in their “LEAP” program, which is designed for working professional adults who want to persue a degree but don’t have the time for more “traditional” class schedules. Basically what this means is, I attend class one night per week, from 6-10pm. One course per week. Each course lasts on average 5 nights. So, 5 weeks per class generally. 62 credit hours over 2 year’s time.

What this also means is a TON of homework to do. I’m only in my second week, and I’m almost feeling overwhelmed already. But, the difference is I’m there because I want to be there, not because I felt pressure to attend a college right after high school, or because my parents are paying for it. I’m 30 years old, and I’m in college to better myself, which I’m willing to bet you couldn’t say the same for most of young adults attending college these days fresh out of high school. So this makes me feel good. It’s been a long time coming.

Oh, I’m studying Computer Information Systems, which is obviously right up my alley. It’s an Associates Degree program. I had to start there due to my lack of any previous college credits. The plan is to use that as a springboard into the B.S. of Business Information Systems program in about 2 years.

Needless to say, I need to learn better time management. Wish me luck!
